Search Engine Optimization

Purpose Statement: This blog post looks at how SEO plays a role in Honey Pie’s marketing and provides ways to make better use of it.

To start laying the groundwork for this post, I decided to turn to Google and try out a few different of my own searches. I put in a few key phrases such as “pizza in Newberg” and “Places to eat in Newberg” to see how Honey Pie fared in the results. Sadly, my findings were not great. When looking up pizza and Newberg, I went through several pages into Google ( which most people do not do) and still did not reach Honey Pie’s website. There were mentions of Honey Pie, but they were from external ordering sites, which I know at least for me; I prefer to look at their actual website when deciding to order there are not.

When looking at their site, the minimalism could contribute to it not getting on Google’s radar; there is not a lot of content for it to pull from. Their menu does not contain the word pizza; all of their pizzas are referred to as “pies.” While this does make sense considering their name, possibly adding the word pizza into the description of their dishes may be enough to tip off google that it should be lumped together with the other pizza parlors. By going into more detail on their site and splitting it up into headings like “who we are,” “what we do,” “where we are located” would make the information more accessible and more likely to be picked up by search engines.
